Messi breaks personal scoring record
Leo Messi's goal against VfB Stuttgart has created new scoring records as he has scored seven goals in the last five consecutive matches for FC Barcelona.
The Argentinian has found the net against Lyon, Sevilla, Real Zaragoza, Levante and Stuttgart as he has made a remarkable start to the new season and made him joint top scorer in the Spanish league with Sergio Agüero.
Two week blitz
His previous best record was five goals in three consecutive games which came when he scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid, another goal against Recreativo and then a single against Deportivo last season.
Now though he has beaten his own personal record with a flurry of goals in the last two weeks. Two goals against Sevilla and another two against Real Zaragoza, allied with strikes against Lyon, Levante and Stuttgart have taken his tally to seven in all competitions.
'Pichichi' in the League and in Europe
These goals have made his top scorer in the league and the Champions League. Agüero also has five goals in the league and the pair moved away from the pack with goals at the weekend for their clubs.
In Europe, Messi is also joint top scorer with two goals in the first two matches. Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Inter, Robin Van Persie of Arsenal, Deivid of Fenerbahce and Vagner Love of CSKA Moscow also all have two goals each.
