Milan’s defence watched as Christian Maggio fired the visitors in front from close range.

Midfielder Gennaro Delvecchio wriggled past Alessandro Nesta and coolly slipped the ball home at the end of a counter-attack to double Samp’s lead.

Alberto Paloschi headed in a cross from fellow 18-year-old Alexandre Pato to deservedly pull one back for Milan in the 71st. The visitors had defender Stefano Lucchini sent off for a second yellow in the closing stages.
