Arsenal opened a five-point lead in the English Premier League, defeating Blackburn 2-0 Monday night on goals by Philippe Senderos and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Senderos scored his second goal of the season off Eduardo da Silva's corner kick in the fourth minute. Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel made a string of saves before Adebayor got his 19th goal of the season in injury time, tying Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo for the league lead.

Seeking its first league title since 2004, Arsenal (19-1-6) has 63 points with 12 games remaining but still must play league matches at Manchester United at Chelsea, its two closest challengers.

Manchester United (18-4-4), the defending champion, lost 2-1 at home Sunday to Manchester City, and third-place Chelsea (16-3-7) is eight points off the lead following a 0-0 tie Sunday against visiting Liverpool.
