Fenerbahce vs CSKA Moscow 3-1 Goal Highlights Champions League 12-12-2007
Scorers:
Fenerbahce: Alex 32, Ugur Boral 45+1, 90
CSKA Moscow: Edu 30 own goal
Halftime: 2-1; Attendance: 52,000
Ugur Boral scored twice to help Fenerbahce clinch a place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-1 win over already-eliminated CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.
They will join Group G winners Inter Milan in the draw for the first knockout round next week.
The Turkish side were dominant from the start but went behind to an own-goal by Edu on the half-hour mark after a mix-up with goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.
Alex took only two minutes to equalise, however, with a fine left-foot shot from 25 metres. Ugur then scored in the 45th and 90th minutes to wrap up the victory.
The win consigned PSV Eindhoven, who lost 1-0 to visitors Inter, to a place in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup.
"It was our team that deserved the victory," Fenerbahce's Brazilian coach Zico told a news conference. "Our team retained its control even during difficult moments and got the win."
The visitors went ahead on the half-hour when Edu diverted a cross from CSKA's Caner Erkin into his own net.
Fenerbahce recovered quickly, however, when Brazilian Alex chested the ball down and sent his shot thundering into the top corner past goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev in the 32nd minute.
Alex was also involved in the Turkish side's second goal on the stroke of halftime when he played a one-two with Semih Senturk before delivering the pass to set up Ugur's first goal.
Fenerbahce kept up the pressure after the break, determined to ensure the Russians finished last with just one point.
News that PSV were losing at home to Inter sent the decibels rising among the home fans who celebrated further when Ugur's last-minute header put the result beyond doubt.
With seven regular players missing, CSKA coach Valery Gazzayev had essentially used the match as a training exercise for his younger players and made no excuses for their fifth group defeat, saying he was satisfied with their performance.
"Seven of our players were young, new players. What was lacking was experience. They had never played a match at this level," Gazzayev told a news conference.
