Frank Rijkaard : “The players all worked as hard as each other”
Frank Rijkaard believes that the main reason the team came away with such a splendid 3-0 result at Alcoyano in tonight’s cup fixture was that the players had all worked as hard as each other.
The FC Barcelona boss was delighted with an excellent group performance that means a place in the next round of the cup is as good as assured. Frank Rijkaard liked the way his players all worked as hard as each other and that although “we knew it wouldn’t be easy to play on Alcoyano’s pitch… the team played very well”.
Gudjohnsen’s generosity
Rijkaard singled Eidur Gudjohnsen out for praise for converting a penalty that needed to be taken twice. “Scoring the second penalty is always harder. He deserved the goal because he had such a good game and was very generous towards the rest of the team. He really played very well indeed”.
Bojan rewarded for hard work
He was also impressed with Bojan, who scored the third and final goal of the night deep into injury time. “Bojan had his chances. He worked hard right up until the end of the game and finally managed to score. I think he did a great job”.
He was also asked if, having beaten Alcoyano, he felt his job was safer. “I am always relaxed on the bench” he retorted. “And I am just very happy that we have done our job right”.
