Peter Crouch’s headed goal is enough to give England victory over Austria but the win is marred by an injury to Michael Owen.

 If you think you have a rough ride as an England fan, spare a thought for supporters of Friday's opponents Austria. The Euro 2008 co-hosts are bad. Very bad.

So bad in fact that fans even organised a recent petition to have the side pulled from playing at next summer's tournament in a desperate bid to avoid heaping further embarrassment on the nation.

The petitioners, whose campaign is named 'Austrian-free Euro 2008 - Austria shows backbone', urged the Austrian Football Association "to voluntarily resign from participating in the Euro 2008".

They even went as far as saying: "Austria was once a country with a keen sense for aesthetics. We want to show the world that we still embrace beauty. We want [Austria] to show some dignity".
