Battle for top place
Glasgow Rangers and FC Barcelona meet tonight (20.45, Radio Barça) with the top spot in Champions League Group E on offer. It is going to be a tough night at Ibrox Park.
The Champions league is back for a clash between the two top sides in Group E, Glasgow Rangers and Barça. The two sides have got off to a perfect start in the league with two wins. Although the Scottish side looked before the competition started to be the most beatable side in the group, they have proven to be the surprise outfit of the tournament. A win or a draw would mean Barcelona stay top.
Time to react
In a game in which a win would leave second round qualification almost assured. Barça need to bounce back from their first loss of the season in Villarreal. But Frank Rijkaard had big problems in midfield, with not only Deco but also Edmílson, Eto'o, Zambrotta, Touré and Márquez sidelined through injury. But Ronaldinho is back after being rested at the weekend.
A difficult stadium
As Txiki Begiristain said from Scotland, Barça should expect a tough encounter in a ground where Rangers have won none of their last ten games. Rangers’ major strength is their solid form playing in front of their own passionate fans.
Power Rangers
Barça will be up against a tough, physical side, as we saw in last weekend’s 3-0 win over their eternal rival Celtic (3-0). Walter Smith’s side are now top of the Scottish Premier League, and are also enjoying a fine start to their Champions League campaign with unexpected wins over Stuttgart (2-1) and Olympique Lyon (0-3).
